Prep basketball polls for 2/19 ... But first, a rant.

Before unveiling the prep polls for this week, I have to get this off of my chest. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there are some coaches out there who read this, and this message is aimed directly at their brethren.
My question is simple, and not all that humble:

What are some of you guys smoking????

I mean, really? Are you watching and reading the same games I am? Are you seeing the same scores I am?

First off, how does Valley jump over Gallup in AAAAA boys when the Bengals haven't lost in 18 games! Please, explain it to me.

It doesn't end there, folks.
Roswell Goddard boys - losers of 10 of their last 13 games, including their last five - managed enough votes to finish 10th.
That's 10th for a 10-15 team that finished last in District 3AAAA. Was it that hard to vote for, I don't know, Grants? Capital? Farmington?

Girls coaches, you are on notice as well.
For those of you that are curious, go to the New Mexico Activities Association Web site (www.nmact.org. Look, I even linked it for you). Hit the "Member schools" section and click on Santa Fe High's link.
Now go to the girls basketball team.
If you can explain why the Demonettes (4-22, losers of their last 17) even got 3 points, please write me back. And recite your school's drug policy after you do that.

Think I'm done? Not quite.
Class AAAA, look at the "Also receiving votes" list. There you will see the Lady Spartans of Bernalillo - all of 2-23 - getting 4 points. They earned more respect from coaches than Silver, the leaders of District 3AAAA at 4-0 and 13-9 overall, a 12-10 Grants team and Volcano Vista at 8-17. The Lady Scorpions of Farmington, at 5-18, also couldn't earn enough respect, although they earned a single vote from some well-intentioned coach.
Apparently, Bernalillo's wins over AA Questa (52-47) and AAA Cuba (50-38) really impressed coaches.

So, after all of this, I ask coaches, "Do you want your basketball polls to maintain any respect and integrity?" If you voted for those teams out of sympathy or just some desire to show those teams support, do yourself a favor and stop voting.
If the answer to my question is "Yes," please - please - do some research and learn about those teams. And if all else fails, call me. I can really help if you need it.

Ok, I am done now. I will release the prep poll in a new post.

  1. Read, any word on whether or not Bill Dimas will be given another season?

He's already destroyed the program. All he can do with another season is to add to that 18 game losing streak.
