Pojoaque vanishes

Here's the funny thing about polls. They really are the highest form of human error, because they reflect opinions. Sometimes, those opinions ring true. Sometimes ... You scratch your head and wonder, "What the ... ???"
And so after yesterday's football poll, I have but one question for the fine football coaches who voted in the Class AAA prep football poll. Where's the love for Pojoaque? And, yes, Elks head coach Quevin Redding (Coach Q, to most people), I include you.
I went back comparing the voting list of head coaches from last week, when the Elks received 16 points to finish just outside the Top 10, and the list revealed the absence of two coaches in this week's poll.
So much to my shock - and yes, I will say dismay - the Elks went from 16 to a big fat ZERO in the poll. How is that possible? To go from the 11th most popular team to not even being on the list? I can understand Redding not voting for his team (although I would think he would want to celebrate his team's success), because there are a few coaches out ther who refuse to do that.
But how can a team beat a AAAA team (albeit a bad Taos team) 31-8 and yet get the shaft in the poll?
Of course, we are talking about prep polls that once had Bernalillo's and Santa Fe High girls basketball team earning votes despite having losing records. So it goes to figure that human beings are fallible.
Or forgettable.

  1. James, you are right. Coach Q has too much class to vote for his own team. He wants them to earn the ranking on their merits. And they DO merit a ranking.

  2. I think the coaches are waitint to see if they can beat a tough team, like Grants next week. You have to ask yourself, what are Pojo's chances of beating any of the teams on the top ten?I dont know,we'll soon find out.

  3. How can they even think about being ranked when their W's have come at the expense of a few 6- man, 8-man, and powder puff teams?

  4. I must be wrong, I thought you said "Coach Q has too much class"! It must be an impostor on the sidelines piling on the score and whining the whole game!

  5. matandome - You are definitely wrong since those high scores were racked up in the first half of most of the games. Once the clock was a running one, starters were replaced by underclassmen in many cases. In any case, scores were run up on Pojoaque several times last year. Were you complaining when St Mikes ran up the score on Pojoaque last year (62-28)?

  6. Anonymous, were you at the Pojo/Esp game when Redding had his starting qb launching passes downfield in the last minute when Pojo was up 44-5? Yea right, very classy! And oh by the way, I hope they run it up on Redding again!

  7. As a matter of fact, I've been to all the Pojoaque games but like I said before, do you complain about other schools running up the score or is it just Pojoaque? Care to comment about Raton's beating of 1A Questa? If you have negative things to say about Raton also - fine, at least you're consistent. If you don't like Pojo, just be honest and say so but don't make them out to be worse than everyone else. As for your hope that SM runs it up again on Pojo - you have the right to hope!

  8. Obviously polls are the highest form of human error as you have McCurdy ahead of Escalante. Escalante is going to light McCurdy up.

  9. Nope, just pojo! And I'll keep hoping!

  10. Pojo has not proven anything until districts start, yeah they're 5-0, but look who they've played!! I dont even know who would be considered as the toughest team on that list. These schools hold no competition for football. When district starts and they start playin Raton, St Mikes, and Robertson then we'll see what they're really made of. Right now I think its right that they're not ranked because they havent played anyone! Nothing against them, good to see them winning, or demolishing teams but they haven't done anything yet.

  11. St. Mikes and Raton will destroy Pojoaque

  12. Raton did not run up the score on Questa. The starters were pulled halfway through the 1st quarter and the JV played the rest of the game.

  13. Pojoaque football will never be a real program, Pojoaque is a basketball school and a volleyball school, so who cares about Pojoaque football?

  14. matandome you must have a problem with Coach Q you don't even know the man but you talk alot about him. If you want to question Coaches class go over to Pojo and have a sit down with him. Don't sit behind your computer and say things, i'm pretty sure Coach will love to sit with you while you talk about his class.

  15. Since you don't know me, you're not aware that I've known Q since he was a jr. high coach at Pojo and since then he's had class and sideline behavior issues. Perhaps you could sit with him and make him aware that someone is always watching people in high profile positions!

  16. I have Known him sense he's been in new mexico and followed all of his coaching stops. he's never had a class problem. he's been in a high profile position at RR and Spana were he was the Def. coordinator, sounds to me that you are calling him out because of your own personal issues. and that is why you want the scores to be ran up on pojo because he is there.if you knew him like you say i don't thimk you would question his class. i played for the high school when he was jr. high coach, and he worked at the labs with my dad and for you to say the man has no class sounds like it's personal.like i said if you really knew the man you would not question his class. I played for him and can't wait until my son can play for him. class of 2002

  17. People are just hilarious. Who cares if Coach Q is or isn't classy? Get a life, honestly! Oh, and one more thing give Pojaoque some credit on their wins, at least they've won even if it was against "powder puff" teams. Get a life people.

  18. Pojo has run up the score... There star QB took every snap against McCurdy and was even on the field on defense as the clock ran out. That is single A McCurdy and the score way out of hand. Pojo is learning to win but now needs to learn to win with class.

  19. Give Pojo some credit as coach Q is trying hard to build the football programe. Also the McCurdy Bobcats are no powder puff team they play good football in their 1A class. Norther New Mexico should support football like we do basketball.
