Championship Saturday is upon us ...

As we head into the finals of the state wrestling tournament, this is how it is shaping up:
Class AAAAA
Daniel Salvidrez faces La Cueva's Marcus Baca, who is 21-0, for the third time this season at 160 pounds. Salvidrez pinned Carlsbad's Chris Yara in the third period of their semifinal match, while Baca survived a 5-4 scare from Albuquerque High's A.J. Lopez. The semifinal round had three District 2AAAAA wrestlers among the Final Four.
Class AAAA
Espaola Valley's Mariano Montoya remains unbeaten at 145 with a 41-0 mark, and he faces Del Norte's Dion Medina for the crown. They have never wrestled each other this season.
Class A-AAA
St. Michael's dominated the morning round action with all 11 wrestlers who reached the semifinals making it to the championship. In fact, the Horsemen have lost only two matches and 12 of their wrestlers will place. That has built a 223 1/2-159 1/2 lead over four-time defending state champion Las Vegas Robertson. Bloomfield is in third at 156.
The Horsemen have Mike Aranda and Jess Martinez going for consecutive state titles in 189 (Aranda) and 145. Robertson's Daniel Martinez is going for his fourth state title in 152 and will join his brothers Adam and Jake among a group of 11 wrestlers who have four titles.
It would keep him in line for the drive for five, which only two wrestlers have done in New Mexico.
